Gusy’s gone bad

“Grrr,” grumbled Gus in a friendly tone, as Jake scratched him above his leg. Gus loved being anywhere where the the sun was, like on the deck, on the concrete and next to the bean bag but his favourite place was by the fireplace.

One day Jake and Maddy came home from school and as they walked past the fireplace Gus was growling at Jake, Maddy and their Mum. Maddy sobbed “ What is wrong with gus, he's gone mad,” “Calm down and go down stairs,” explained Dad. Jake's Dad thought this was such strange behavior because normally Gus was a great dog and he hopes that Gus sharpens his act up.

But Gus got worse and one night Jake's Dad tried to put Gus away but Gus didn’t think he was ready for bed so he growled and went into defensive mode and he got angry. He eventually walked outside but Jake's Dad was so angry so he threw a pillow at Gus, Gus leaped straight back at Jake’s Dad but Jake's Dad slammed the sliding door shut. Gus started attacking the glass. Jake's Dad sighed “I'm glad that wasn't my hand.”

Jake’s Mum and Dad had to decide what to do because you don’t want a dangerous dog inside your house. So they put him outside in the shed. Now they had some time to decide what to do. They came up with an idea, they booked Gus in to get castrated because they thought that would make him less of a grump. But it didn’t work it made Gus grumpyer. He didn’t want to go to bed either and he was trying to bite Jake’s Dad. So they had to make a big hard decision. Jake’s family all said their goodbyes to Gus before Jake’s Dad took him to the vet. Later that day they buried Gus beside the rock in the sun where Jake’s family could visit him whenever they wanted.
